03.11.08 WOODSTOCK DIRT BIRT BIKE MASTERS FLYING HIGH ON SERIES SUCCESS
|
As the dust settles on the inaugural Woodstock Dirt Bike Masters series, event organisers have declared the back-to-grassroots series a huge success with more than 6,000 spectators and over 400 entrants across the three rounds.
Re-introducing thumper-style racing, the Woodstock Dirt Bike Masters successfully and seamlessly blended top-level Pro racing with unlicensed novice racers, up-and-coning juniors, women, over 35's and everyone in between.
The series also provided an increasingly rare avenue for riders to competitively wheel out their two-stroke machines in this era of four-stroke racing.
Complementing the on-track action with extreme entertainment, the Woodstock Dirt Bike Masters also featured Australia's hottest Freestyle Motocross (FMX) talent, including Crusty Demon rider Cam Sinclair showing off his latest gravity-defying stunts with a selection of his own innovative back flip combo tricks.
Offering incredible value for money and delivering something for all ages, the Dirt Bike Masters events each included a range of trade displays, exciting carnival rides and sideshows.
Running the trio of events at Pakenham Racecourse, Loy Yang Power Station at Traralgon and wrapping up the series at Lardner Park in Warragul, the Woodstock Dirt Bike Masters was proudly presented by Maxima Oils, Stroke Magazine and, of course, Woodstock Bourbon.

"It has been a very rewarding experience putting this series together, and I am very pleased to have been part of the first-ever Woodstock Dirt Bike Masters series.
"We have received a lot of very positive feedback from riders and fans alike… everyone has really welcomed the return of thumper-style racing, and in just three short events the series really kicked some goals.
"We've developed a brilliant formula combining awesome racing and a brilliant entertainment package which has included the likes of FMX World Record holder, Cam Sinclair.
"Looking forward, we hope the series will continue to go from strength to strength in years to come." |

02.11.08 TAYLOR CROWNED KING OF WOODSTOCK DIRT BIKE MASTERS
|
Gippsland local hero Cameron Taylor dominated proceedings, charging to victory in both the Pro Open and Pro Lites classes as the inaugural Woodstock Dirt Bike Masters series wrapped up with the third and final round at Lardner Park, Warragul (VIC), today.
Multi-time Australian Champion, Taylor today added to his trophy cabinet after notching up two race wins in the Pro Open class and a clean sweep of three race victories in the Pro Lites class to take out the round honours in both categories.
Impressively, Taylor's stellar effort across the entire three-round series also saw the Suzuki rider awarded the overall series wins in both Pro Open and Pro Lites.
Rounding out the series in perfect weather conditions, Australian 250cc Enduro Champion, Peter Boyle struck the first blow, snatching a win in the day's first Pro Open race with Taylor in second place and Taylor's main series rival Brent Landman completing the top three.
Taylor returned the favour in race two, as he powered his RM-Z450 to a comfortable win with Boyle in second and Landman again in third.
With series honours riding on the day's final Pro Open challenge, Taylor and Landman were locked in fierce battle in the opening stage of the race, until Landman suffered a minor crash, allowing veteran Taylor to pull a gap.
Undeterred, Landman mounted a thrilling charge to rein in Taylor, applying immense pressure before putting in a superb passing manouevre to take and stretch out the race lead.
Looking set to take the win in the series' final race, Landman crashed again on the last lap, only a few corners from victory, handing the win back to Taylor.
As a result, Taylor took today's round honours in the Pro Open class ahead of Boyle and Landman, while the overall series standings finished with Taylor leading Landman and third-placed Tim Vare.
In the Pro Lites class, Taylor again came under fire from Honda rider Landman, but maintained his advantage to score three wins, finishing the day ahead of Landman in second and Josh Ross in third place.
The Pro Lites series standings saw Taylor again finish on top overall, while strong, consistent performances across the three rounds earned Brad Matheson and Matt van Slooten second and third placings, respectively.
Representing the next generation of star racers, Troy McNally scored an incredible nine straight race wins the Junior Lites category - the only rider in any class to wrap up the Dirt Bike Masters series with a perfect score.
In Expert Open, Daniel Milner topped his class for the final round, while the series win went to Daniel Thomas.
Wrapping up the day on top of the Expert Lites class, Coby Willis scored three straight race wins to earn both the round and series titles.
Adam Burhop shot to the top of the standings for both the round and overall series in the Clubmen Open class, while the Clubmen Lites round went to Rhys Bennett, with today's second placed Ben Robbins wrapping up the series win.
Racking up a massively dominant eight wins from nine races across the three events, Mark Portbury was the class of the 2-Stroke Open field as he stormed through to take the round and series victories.
The fierce and wily Over 35 class was topped by Craig Rutherford for both the day and the overall series.
With Woodstock Honda rider Rebecca Lipsett dramatically sidelined after an emergency appendectomy, the battle for glory in the Senior Women's class was thrown wide open.
Carley Emanuelli stepped up to greet the challenge, and was rewarded with the round and series wins.
Junior rider, Geran Stapleton collected two race wins in the 85cc-150cc class on his way to sealing the event and overall series wins.
Full results from the 2008 Woodstock Dirt Bike Masters round three and overall series will be available online at www.fullthrottlesports.com/dbm.
CAMERON TAYLOR - PRO OPEN & PRO LITES WINNER
"I had a great series with a win in both the Lites and Open today, and I'd really like to thank Suzuki for providing two awesome bikes to get the job done.
"I'm fairly worn out after doing double duty in two classes - by the end of the day I was feeling it... riding up and down the hills really takes it out of your shoulders, so I'll sleep well tonight.
"Of course, racing both classes has its advantages, too, because you get to know where the track's going and where the lines are developing, but at the same time you get fatigued in the races as well.
"The competition was really good out here, today - there's a lot of guys who've really stepped it up in this series.
"It's really important for Victorian riders to have more opportunities to race, particularly against the top guys in the country - it makes a big difference, so that's been a real plus for this series.
"The event preparation here was fantastic - they've done a great job with the ripping of the track and managing the dust... I've had ball through the whole Dirt Bike Masters series."

28.10.08 CRUSTY DEMON BACK FOR MORE FLIPPING TRICKS AT WARRAGUL
|
World record holding Crusty Demon rider, Cam Sinclair is back with his extreme flipping tricks for this Sunday's Woodstock Dirt Bike Masters finale at Lardner Park, Warragul (VIC).
Taking time out from competing in the Australasian FMX Championship, Sinclair is bringing his brand of high energy, high risk entertainment to thrill the local spectators.
Hailing from Pearcedale, Gippsland's own Freestyle motocross sensation, Sinclair is excited to be performing for a home crowd again and plans to show off his latest and greatest tricks.
Ranked seventh in the World FMX standings, Sinclair's freestyle demonstrations will be the cornerstone of an exciting entertainment package that will include something for the whole family, with trade displays, carnival rides and side shows to complement the day's race action.

The Woodstock Dirt Bike Masters will wrap up with round three at Lardner Park, Warragul (VIC) on Sunday 2 November.
CAM SINCLAIR
"I had a ball doing some of my new tricks at the last round, but it was a bit windy.
"If the wind is down this weekend, I'll be doing some of my own trick combinations that no-one will have seen Australia before.
"There's nothing quite like performing for a home crowd and I really hope there's a big turn out to cheer us on."

27.10.08 TAYLOR & LANDMAN FIGHT FOR DIRT BIKE MASTERS HONOURS
|
Cameron Taylor and Brent Landman are set to battle for Pro Open series honours in the inaugural Woodstock Dirt Bike Masters series in this Sunday's final round at Lardner Park, Warragul (VIC).
Separated by just two points in Taylor's favour, the pair have notched one round victory a piece with the final round set to be the big decider.
Taking a clean sweep, Taylor won all three Pro Open races in round one, while Landman came on strong in the second round taking two wins from three.
Adding a degree of difficulty, Taylor has a double workload racing in the Lites class too, and is on a mission to win both the Open and Lites classes following his Lites victories in the opening two rounds.
The 34-year-old racer also holds a strong lead in the Lites class, and with a 23-point advantage he has almost an entire race up his sleeve over nearest rival Brad Matheson and another 15 points over third-placed Matt van Slooten.
With Suzuki rider, Taylor and Honda's Landman hailing from Berwick and Pearcedale respectively, the only dilemma for Gippsland fans will be which local hero to support.
CAMERON TAYLOR:
"Switching manufacturers part way through the series made it tough for the second round while I was getting used to the new bike.
"Now I've had time to get dialled in on the new Suzuki, so there's no way I'm going to have another weekend like the last one.
"I'm looking forward to this final round - I've got Landman covered."
BRENT LANDMAN:
"I've got a fast bike and I know exactly what I need to do to take another win.
"I'm just going try and get the starts, get up front and stay out of trouble.
"I beat Cam pretty convincingly in the last round and there's no reason I can't do it again." |

3AW PERSONALITY SET TO EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF DREAMS IN WOODSTOCK DIRT BIKE MASTERS
|
After a 20 year hiatus from dirt bike racing (and a 20 kilo starting weight increase) Melbourne motoring journalist Tom Reynolds returns to the race track on a Woodstock Honda prepared CRF250X.
Reynolds, a regular motoring guest with Neil Mitchell on 3AW, was once a bright young thing in dirt biking circles, but chose obscurity over fame very early in his racing career.
Woodstock Honda are the factory team for Honda Australia, so Tom is taking every opportunity to remind all and sundry that he is now a factory rider for Honda. The Power of Dreams indeed.
|
 |
This Sunday he will celebrate his first Father's Day as a dad by racing against 20+ fellow; overweight, slow, unfit blokes three times in the rally class.
The first event of the three-round Woodstock Dirt Bike Masters series, racing kicks off at Pakenham Racecourse from 10am and the hilarity should follow shortly after.
